I love MooTools but one thing to keep in mind is that the Ajax expects to be served up through an HTTP server, so if you are testing locally through the file:// protocol then it may not work correctly. My old coworkers had a competition to build the same widget in jQuery, Prototype and MooTools. The widget was simple HTML and made an Ajax request to a static HTML file. Well, the team developing it in MooTools got stuck because the onComplete event handler wouldn't fire. When they tested the onFailure event handler, it did fire. MooTools was (perhaps correctly) reporting that the Ajax request failed, even though the onFailure event handler was being called with the Ajax response. So, out of frustration they wrote the widget depending on it failing every time (which still worked because they got the response back). Later they realized that it was because they were using the file:// protocol instead of serving it up through a web server.

I'm trying to follow this for Expression Engine switching from prototype and the tutorial written over at jambor-ee. How would this work inline (including the loading image)? Is there a simpler way with Expression Engine, since the url has to be in the template?

I have no idea, I don't think it's possible with the mootools ajax class. I googled on it and found this <a href="http://forum.mootools.net/viewtopic.php?pid=15798" rel="nofollow">thread</a> in the mootools forums. They say it's not possible to upload files using the ajax class...
